In these last days, many false doctrines and false teachers have sprung
forth to deceive the masses concerning the truth of God’s word. One of the more
popular deceptions that many have been deceived by is that of the Mormon
faith, which proclaims that there is “another Testament of the Lord Jesus
The book of Mormon is held by Mormons to be holy scripture comparable
to the Bible. Now, as it is written:
“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of
God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”
(1 John 4:1)
Thus, if it is so that the book of Mormon is holy scripture, then it must be
tried by the word of God to see if it is truly of God.
It is written:
“For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
For a testament is of force after men are dead:
Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood.
For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to
the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet
wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people,
Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.
Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.
It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens
should be purified with these;
The Old (first) Testament was dedicated with the blood of calves and
goats. It was how the Old Testament was established, for the children of
Israel made a blood covenant with God. Though, being that the blood of
bulls and goats cannot take away sins, the sacrifices which the children of
Israel offered for the atonement of their sins had to be done year by year
(Leviticus 16:29-34, Hebrews 10:1-4).
It was therefore necessary for a sacrifice to be made wherein the
shedding of blood could take away sins. Thus, Jesus Christ of Nazareth was
sent into the world to take away the sin of the world, being the Lamb of God
(Hebrews 10:7-10, John 1:29). And, as he was without sin because he came from
God, his blood was pure and precious (1 Peter 1:19), and thus could be shed
for all mankind.
“And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”
The New Testament, which began on the day of Pentecost (as recorded in
Acts 2), could not have been established without the death of Jesus and the
shedding of his blood.
Now, the book of Mormon is purported to be another Testament of Jesus
Christ. It must then be asked, how can there be another Testament when
the scriptures declare that Jesus offered up himself once to bear the sins of
many (Hebrews 9:26-28)?
For there to be another Testament of Jesus Christ, it would be necessary
for Jesus to have died and shed his blood again for that testament to be
established. But the scriptures declare that it is appointed unto men once to
die, but after this the judgment (Hebrews 9:27), and also that Christ died
once, not twice, and rose from the dead, who is now even at the right hand
of God (Romans 6:10, 8:34).
Those who believe that there is another Testament of Jesus Christ have
been greatly deceived and are yet in their sins. For with the establishment of
the New Testament, the apostle Peter declared on the day of Pentecost the
way of salvation:
“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in
the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,
For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off,
Any other testament is contradictory to the word of God and is in no wise
of the Lord Jesus Christ.
God promised, as recorded in the law, that he would make a new
covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah (Jeremiah
31:31). Being that he spoke of a new covenant, he made the first old; which
is now vanished away, being replaced by a better covenant (Hebrews 7:22, 8:6, 13).
covenants (testaments). God only spoke of one new testament (not two),
that would replace the first one that he had before established with the
children of Israel.
The book of Mormon, by its cover and title alone, having been tried by the word of
God, is shown to not be of God and is in direct contradiction to God’s word.
And if it be not of God, then it is of devils.
“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto
you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.“
Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils:
